The FDA Finds Cyclospora in Lettuce Served at McDonald's, Trader Joes, and Walmart

Cyclospora is a parasite that causes a nasty form of food borne gastrointestinal illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, weight loss, gas, and cramping. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports more than 395 people were affected, and more than 511 cases were found in lab results. This widespread outbreak affected more than 14 states, and caused McDonald's to stop serving lettuce at 3,000 stores!

The agriculture industry argues that this does not happen often. However, do you remember the E. Coli outbreak less than 9 months ago? You know.. the one one where more than 200 people got sick in more than 35 states?

I post this story because I'm often asked "Why grow your own food?"

Well this story might help you answer that question, and this is only one of the reasons..
